"I urge you to vote yes on November 7 for
the USD 308 Bond issue.
I have toured the facilities slated for improvement. At an
elementary school I have witnessed band rehearsal on the
stage while physical education class was being conducted on
the gymnasium floor with only a curtain separating the two.
A janitor closet was converted to an office for a teacher.
Space in a boiler room has been carved out for special
education class.
The high school chemistry lab is extremely inadequate and
was so noted when we were being accredited for International
Baccalaureate studies. Physical education which is so
important for our children lacks enough lockers to
accommodate all of the participants. They just place their
belongings on the floor until the class is over leaving
students vulnerable to theft. The weight room is inadequate
for the number of student athletes that utilize this
facility.
The plan includes expanding the Vocational Center to a
high-tech Vocational Academy. This is very important for the
health of our business community. Not every student
graduating from Hutchinson High School will go on to
college. The Vocational Academy will provide students
necessary training for the local work force. Many other
students in the surrounding communities will continue to use
this incredible resource facility.
Every facility will receive necessary safety improvements.
Our children are our most valuable resource and it is up to
us to provide for them. Please join me in voting YES! on
November 7."

"Please vote 'yes' on November 7 for the
USD 308 bond issue.
We have a financial window whereby all the needed updates on
USD 308 schools can be done with only a minimal raise in
taxes: an annual increase of $50.04 for a $50,000 house.
This is because USD 308 debt on past bonds will be paid off
and interest rates are relatively low right now.
I don’t want our children to be at an educational
disadvantage in today’s world because of inadequate
facilities, equipment, or technology for the best possible
environment for learning.
Passing the bond issue is something we can – and should –
do."
